The Machine

GATS at the level of architecture: what it is, what it refuses to do, and how it is governed.

GCPIAUT–GATS

A portfolio controller, not a signal.

The GCPIAUT–GATS Universal Trading Framework is the house’s proprietary algorithmic trading architecture. It does not forecast and it does not follow a tip. It governs a book: when a position may be born, how large it may be, how it is protected, when it is released and what the book as a whole may carry.

Each running instance is a complete portfolio in its own right. A single instrument may hold several positions at once by design: an anchor, and further entries in the direction the trend indicates. Each instance reads only its own book; no instance takes its evidence from another.

The machine is judged on its function and its engineering, not on the distance it has travelled. A new machine is not valued on its mileage.

What the machine refuses

Six standing refusals.

Each was reasoned from the record and decreed; several are dissected in the Anatomy papers of Thought Impresses.

I

No time-based closes

A position is never closed because a clock says so. The only time limits obeyed are those a venue imposes and the house cannot control, such as the expiry of a futures contract.

II

No stops inside noise

The final stop sits outside ordinary movement, scaled to each instrument’s own volatility, so that one architecture serves every asset class without per-instrument settings.

III

No hedge as an afterthought

The hedge is part of the machine. It damps drain without making a directional call, and it is itself governed by limits on what it may cost.

IV

No pretence of safety

Where a venue’s smallest tradable unit carries more risk than the plan requests, the position is admitted at that minimum and the excess is governed rather than refused. Markets are never safe; the machine does not pretend otherwise.

V

No curve-fitting

The architecture is not tuned to one book. It is built to run unchanged across venues and asset classes, and is analysed as a whole machine, never piece by piece.

VI

No forecasting

The machine governs what the market is doing; it does not predict what it will do. Equity is treated as the integral of birth, sizing, protection and release, so the mechanisms are the work.

How it is changed

Every change is a governed event.

A change to the machine is called a cut. A cut is authorised only on a named defect, carries a specification written before any code, and declares in advance the property it will deliver and what would prove it wrong.

Each build ships under its own name. Every cut is audited at the level of the source before it runs, and a defect, once found, is corrected for every instance at once rather than held.

What is not published

The machine is described here at the level of architecture only. Its parameters, accounts, venues and results are not published, and nothing on this page is a representation of performance.
